Rizwan Hamid is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the University College London Hospitals and London Spinal Injuries Unit, Stanmore, UK and a Honorary Associate Professor at UCL.
He undertook specialist urological training in London with fellowship in functional and neurourology at Institute of Urology, London. Rizwan was the first non-European qualified urologist appointed at UCLH in open interview. His doctoral thesis was investigating fertility issues in spinal cord injury men resulting in a MD from UCL.
He specialises in Female Urology & Neuro-Urology and provides a tertiary care practice in reconstruction of the lower urinary tract.
Complementing his experience in general urological conditions, Rizwan specialises in conservative and surgical management of bladder dysfunction in both male and females. He has particular interest in managing overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, infections and bladder pain in both sexes.
He has a keen interest in treating men’s health conditions like prostate issues and erectile dysfunction
Rizwan is an internationally acknowledged expert in the management of bladder dysfunction after neurological diseases.
He undertakes all surgical procedures in functional urology with particular interest in the use of Botulinum toxin and sacral neuromodulation for bladder dysfunction and slings and sphincters for urinary incontinence.
Rizwan has been a principal investigator for a number of clinical trials. He set up and is the principal investigator for a European wide registry for male anti-incontinence surgery.
Rizwan is the Director of School of Neurourology of International Continence Society (ICS) and Chair of the Neuro-urology Promotion Committee. He sits on the Boards of Female and Functional sections of European Association of Urology.
He has been involved in a number of guidelines initiatives including co-chair for terminology in Neuro-Urology and male surgical procedures. He is also a member of Neuro-urology guidelines panel of European Association of Urology.
In addition to clinical side, Rizwan enjoys the academic and teaching aspect of Urology. He is regularly invited to lecture and chair at major international meetings and invited to review articles for a number of urology journals. He is on the Editorial Boards of Neurourology & Urodynamics and Turkish urology journal.
