Lebanon
I am a Full Professor, President of the Medical Committee, Chairman of Surgery department, and the chief of Urology Division at Saint George University Hospital, a 400-bed academic tertiary care center, Balamand University Faculty of Medicine, Beirut, Lebanon.
After my medical and Specialty studies at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and Saint Joseph University (USJ) in Lebanon, I moved to the USA where I received the American Endo-Urological society fellowship after training with Professor Arthur Smith at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York in 1998.
I, then, moved to Paris where I received an AFSA degree in Urology, and then worked as an Assistant in Saint Louis Hospital, Paris under Professor Alain Le Duc. The main focus of my work was Oncologic-Urology and Female-Urology, and I was a lecturer at the School of surgery of the APHP, Paris.
I returned to Lebanon in 2000 and started teaching at Saint Joseph and Balamand universities, on top of affiliation for clinical work at Hotel Dieu and Saint Georges university hospitals (SGHUMC).
In 2005, I became a Full-time Faculty at Saint George University Hospital, where I introduced and developed Percutaneous surgery, Laparoscopy, and modern Endo-Urology. I established himself and SGHUMC as a national and regional reference center on Stone Disease and Percutaneous surgery. I was, and still, receiving referrals from all over Lebanon, as well as the regional countries like Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and the Gulf.
I organized many workshops on Endoscopic management of Stone Disease (Percutaneous surgeries and flexible ureteroscopies) at SGHUMC for urologists from the Arab world. I was an Invited speaker to many of the regional countries, giving lectures, running workshops, and performing live-transmitted surgeries.
Besides Endo-Urology and Stone Disease, I developed a large expertise in the fields of Cancer in Urology, Urinary Incontinence, Male Infertility, and Erectile Dysfunction.
On an academic level, since my nomination as chief of Urology in 2013, I strived to make the Urology division one of the best academic divisions for both students and residents, by optimizing OR mentoring, bed-side teaching, clinic attendance, staff, and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and oral presentations.
On the research level, I have conducted several research projects in the clinical field as well as the basic science field in collaboration with researchers from the faculty of Health Sciences. This resulted in more than 43 publications in esteemed international peer-review journals, and hundreds of oral and poster presentations in international medical congresses (CV attached).
I received an EMBA in Health Management in 2010 from Sorbonne and Dauphine universities, Paris, France in a combined program with Saint Joseph University, Beirut.
On top of my responsibility as chief of the urology division, I was appointed Chairman of the department of surgery since October 2017. This appointment along with my other task as president of the Medical committee since 2014, gave me the opportunity to play administrative and organizational roles in the university and the hospital.
